Original Song by JT Kelly: Each New Day (1 Peter 5:8)
On this past Sunday, June 14th, during both worship services, JT Kelly introduced a new song that he wrote as a personal confession. God used it to be a blessing to our parishioners. Here’s some back story on the song:
It is based on 1 Peter 5:8 - Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary, the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
Kyron and Libby found out that JT was a poet first, then later realized that he is a songwriter, then finally, they found out he’s a singer too!
Kyron and Libby then asked him to write a song that would accompany one of the scripture passages in the sermon series. As he was reflecting on our sermon series, he “read ahead” and decided to write around 1 Peter 5:8, the inspiration came during the church service! :)
JT introduced the song as a reflection on the “things that can look promising, but really aren’t” He mentioned how in the passage, our adversary is “like” a lion but he’s actually not. God is the real lion. Church, this is an image we need to remember. There are many lies that seem true and ways of living that seemingly lead to prosperity. We are bombarded with these every day but for the Christian, “each new day” has brand new mercies from the God-Lion.
If you are reading this and think, “hey, I get inspired sometimes too! Can I submit a song, poem, etc.?” The answer is yes. Please get in touch with Kyron or Libby. We are excited to explore the possibility of facilitating a place for you to share your work with the church.

LYRICS:
VERSE 1:
Hand to God, hand to mirror
Mimicry or genuine
Lion movement, I can't see straight
Is this real or really the end
Is this a fun house, am I spinning?
Reaching out in the dark
Blind faith, earnest I'm trying
I can't see beyond myself
CHORUS:
And I know deep down this is not what's meant to be
But I can't reach out I'm scared of what I'll see
What I'll be, how I'll change, how the Lord made me
I find comfort in the pain of sin
In the evil that I've been
VERSE:
I don't know how to distinguish
I've never been wise
So Lord please show me
Cut me open, heart and mind
On the table I am screaming
Black smoke billowing out
Call the pigs, oh my heart breaks
As they carry my shame down
CHORUS:
And I know deep down this is not what's meant to be
But I can't reach out I'm scared of what I'll see
What I'll be, how I'll change, how the Lord made me
I find comfort in the pain of sin
In the evil that I've been
BRIDGE:
Each new day
I'll push past fear and drive away
And I'll fall in the mud
And I'll crash and burn
I've made peace with that and I'll be given peace in turn
LAST CHORUS:
And I know deep down this is not what's meant to be
And I know deep down this is not what's meant to be
And I know deep down this is not what's meant to be
And I know deep down this is not what's meant to be
But I can't reach out I'm scared of what I'll see
What I'll be, how I'll change, how the Lord made me
I found comfort in the pain of sin
And in God I'll find it again
OUTRO:
Each new day
Each new day
Each new day
Each new day
Each new day
